The original cover of Mr. Penumbra’s 24-Hour Bookstore captures the book’s literary essence, but I wanted to push the design further to reflect its darker, more mysterious undertones. My redesign enhances the sense of secrecy, discovery, and the blend of old and new knowledge that defines the story. Through careful composition, orientation experiments, and subtle contrasts, I aimed to create a cover that feels intentional, one that visually embodies the book’s themes of hidden codes, digital intrigue, and the magic of books.
Outcome
The redesigned cover of Mr. Penumbra’s 24-Hour Bookstore captures the novel’s mystery and tech-driven themes through intentional composition, contrast, and layout. The final design enhances the book’s atmosphere, and Rodrigo Corral, the original designer, appreciated the fresh approach.
